Playground equipment has been ordered to complete the park before the start of this winter season, 2020.
Please feel free to include additional comments about your application.: The City of Madison is a small, rural farming community in Eastern South Dakota, and is the home to Dakota State University. The Madison Kiwanis Club has supported many area projects and events for children and young adults, and when this information came to our attention, we were excited to be able to enter this contest to see if we could procure financial help for this expensive project. Prior to this, we were looking into possibly purchasing a swing for disabled children but we were lacking in funding, being a small club. Memorial Park has been centrally located park in Madison for over 60 years, and is also utilized as a park for recesses for a nearby school. When this playground is completed, the estimated cost will be approximately $240,000. The playground will be 100% ADA accessible, to help individuals confined to a wheelchair to be able to better able to maneuver around the park, and will also provide less maintenance than normal playground surfacing. The city has already procured some grants for the park in the amount of around $167,000, but if the city could procure additional funding they can use this towards the City's matching funding, according to the State of SD.
