Kiwanis Club of Watertown
The Kiwanis Club of Watertown, SD has explored options of adding the first All-Inclusive Playground in our community for several years. We have learned by working with the city and parks department that other obstacles such as making parks themselves handicap accessible and replacing existing equipment is often more costly than building a new park. However, the resources and space for adding new parks to our town are very limited. Through city funds, our community foundation, and private investment, the construction plans for a Downtown Plaza project is underway which will include space for a playground, splashpad, and many other amenities for all community members to enjoy. In honor of our club's 100th Anniversary as well as ensuring kids of all abilities have a space to enjoy with their family and friends, the Kiwanis Club of Watertown has approached the city to bring the All-Inclusive Playground a reality in this community space.
The revitalization and growth of our city, especially the downtown area, has been exponential the last few years. However, one area consistently identified as on opportunity for our community is amenities for growing families. Public amenities that offer greater quality of life are extremely important to attract and retain families that make up the thriving community that we are. The Kiwanis Club wants to ensure projects such as the Downtown Plaza include an All-Inclusive Playground so kids of all-abilities can enjoy the space with their family and friends and know this space was designed specifically with them in mind. The Kiwanis Club of Watertown, SD hopes this park will be a way to celebrate the 100 years of service to our community and a way to continue to improve our community, one child at a time.
